These funds moved to previously inactive Bitcoin wallets. Only <strong>12,000 BTC<\/strong> remained with LuBian, who subsequently ceased all public activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: ARKHAM UNCOVERS $3.5B HEIST &#8211; THE LARGEST EVER<br><br>LuBian was a Chinese mining pool with facilities in China &amp; Iran. Based on analysis of on-chain data, it appears that 127,426 BTC was stolen from LuBian in December 2020, worth $3.5 billion at the time and now worth\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PnIOKgMt0i\">pic.twitter.com\/PnIOKgMt0i<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Arkham (@arkham) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/arkham\/status\/1951729790299394113?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 2, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Arkham also discovered that LuBian had attempted to contact the attacker by sending over <strong>1,500 microtransactions<\/strong> containing negotiation messages. However, these calls remained unanswered, and the stolen <strong>127,000 BTC<\/strong> have never been moved since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arkham&#8217;s analysis revealed that the vulnerability behind the theft stemmed from a weakness in <strong>LuBian&#8217;s private key generation<\/strong>. Their wallet software used an algorithm based on only <strong>32 bits of entropy<\/strong>, a security level far too weak. This allowed the attacker to brute-force the private keys and drain the funds without triggering any alerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"127000-btc-gone-looking-back-at-the-biggest-bitcoin-theft\">127,000 BTC Gone : Looking Back at the Biggest Bitcoin Theft<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Compared to other <strong>major thefts in <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/learn\/crypto\/bitcoin\/\">bitcoin<\/a> history<\/strong>, the LuBian incident stands out for its sheer magnitude. With 127,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/crypto-investing\/buy\/bitcoin\/\">BTC<\/a> stolen, worth over <strong>$14 billion today<\/strong>, it&#8217;s by far the largest theft ever revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, the fact that the funds have never been moved or laundered makes this theft even more exceptional. Arkham confirmed that the addresses linked to the attacker now make them the <strong>13th largest bitcoin holder in the world<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This saga underscores the crucial importance of <strong>wallet security in the <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/crypto-investing\/\">cryptocurrency<\/a> ecosystem<\/strong>.
