ETH : Critical Withdrawal Queue

The waiting period for Ethereum (ETH) unstaking has more than doubled to over 45 days, triggering outrage within the crypto community. Some have complained that this lengthy queue makes it difficult to access funds needed to pay bills like electricity and rent. They’ve called for shortening this period, similar to Solana (SOL) where it’s only two days.

In response, Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, stated that this extended period is an integral part of the blockchain’s “security pact,” comparing the situation to a soldier leaving the army. He added that reducing this timeframe would make the chain much less trustworthy.

According to validator data, the amount of ETH ready to be unstaked has reached 2.5 million ETH, equivalent to more than $11 billion at current prices. The queue has grown from 600,000 ETH to over 2.5 million, representing nearly 4x growth in just two days, while the waiting period increased from approximately 10 days to 46 days.

It's more like a soldier deciding to quit the army.

Staking is about taking on a solemn duty to defend the chain. Friction in quitting is part of the deal. An army cannot hold together if any percent of it can suddenly leave at any time.
