Once touted as <strong>the rival of <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/crypto-investing\/buy\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a><\/strong>, ETH is struggling to compete with newer cryptocurrencies like <strong>Solana and <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/crypto-investing\/buy\/ripple-xrp\">XRP<\/a>.<\/strong> This decline has drawn the attention of key industry players and the general public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a recent report from Bloomberg, <strong>Ethereum <\/strong>is currently going through<strong> the toughest period in its history<\/strong> as it enters its second decade of existence. Developers are fleeing the network, early adopters are disgruntled, and the token has started falling <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/crypto-news\/bitcoin-ethereum-eth-outperform-btc-bull-run\/\">behind BTC<\/a> and its smaller competitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite <strong>Ethereum <\/strong>remaining the second-largest crypto with a market capitalization of <strong>$221 billion<\/strong>, ETH has seen a significant decline. Since the beginning of the year, it has lost over <strong>44%<\/strong>, dropping from <strong>$3,600<\/strong> in January 2025 to just <strong>$1,800<\/strong>. This fall puts the altcoin on track for its worst quarterly decline since the bear market <strong>of 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-end-of-eth-reign-over-altcoins\"><strong>The End of ETH Reign over Altcoins<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the last 12 months, while Bitcoin has seen a rise of <strong>30%<\/strong>, Ethereum has dropped by <strong>47%<\/strong>, gradually losing its lead over its competitors. Meanwhile, its direct rival <strong>Solana <\/strong>has seen a significant increase in active developers, becoming a popular hub for <strong>memecoins <\/strong>with an <strong>83%<\/strong> growth over a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other cryptocurrencies like <strong>XRP <\/strong>by Ripple have also outperformed ETH, with a <strong>249%<\/strong> increase in market capitalization over a year, rising from <strong>$30 to $127 billion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-future-of-ethereum\"><strong>The Future of Ethereum<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>According to AMBCrypto&#8217;s analysis, Ethereum is currently under strong bearish pressure. At the time of writing, the altcoin was trading at <strong>$1,800<\/strong>, marking a decrease of <strong>2.11%<\/strong> for the day and <strong>8.50%<\/strong> for the week, indicating a significant negative sentiment.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"676\" src=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/03\/ETHUSD_2025-03-31_08-45-51-1024x676-1.jpg\" alt=\"ETH price in 1D\" class=\"wp-image-1803\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.investx.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/03\/ETHUSD_2025-03-31_08-45-51-1024x676-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/media.investx.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/03\/ETHUSD_2025-03-31_08-45-51-1024x676-1-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media.investx.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/03\/ETHUSD_2025-03-31_08-45-51-1024x676-1-768x507.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>In the short term, <strong>ETH <\/strong>could test the bottom of its Mean Reversion Channel in 3H, around <strong>$1,730<\/strong>. However, with an oversold RSI and positioned in a strong demand zone, ETH should be able to resist and stay above <strong>$1,700.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"676\" src=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/03\/ETHUSD_2025-03-31_08-49-06-1024x676-1.jpg\" alt=\"Ethereum price in 3H\" class=\"wp-image-1805\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.investx.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/03\/ETHUSD_2025-03-31_08-49-06-1024x676-1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/media.investx.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/03\/ETHUSD_2025-03-31_08-49-06-1024x676-1-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/media.investx.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/03\/ETHUSD_2025-03-31_08-49-06-1024x676-1-768x507.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, technical signals indicate a continuation of the bearish trend.
