The NSA is pushing for an exclusively quantum version, facilitating potential compromise,&#8221; says Todd.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"whats-the-problem-with-purely-quantum-cryptography\">What&#8217;s the Problem with Purely Quantum Cryptography?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the <strong>hybrid<\/strong> approach is favored by <strong>open source<\/strong> communities like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/learn\/crypto\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a><\/strong>. It combines a <strong>proven algorithm (ECDSA, RSA)<\/strong> with a <strong>post-quantum algorithm (Kyber, Dilithium)<\/strong>. The goal is to make any attack <strong>more complex<\/strong>, requiring hackers to break both schemes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the NSA is allegedly pushing for <strong>exclusively post-quantum algorithms at the IETF.<\/strong> A non-hybrid system eliminates this security redundancy. If the chosen algorithm is weakened, intentionally or not, the entire cryptographic structure collapses\u2014a dream scenario for an actor with privileged access, such as an intelligence agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-conflicted-history-between-nsa-and-civilian-cryptography\">The Conflicted History Between NSA and Civilian Cryptography<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Peter Todd&#8217;s concern fits into a long tradition of mistrust regarding the NSA&#8217;s role in the evolution of cryptographic standards. In the 90s, they <strong>attempted to impose the Clipper chip<\/strong>, with &#8220;legal&#8221; government access.
