Launched on the public mainnet on October 1st after eight months in private beta, Lighter is a decentralized exchange (DEX) for perpetual contracts built on an Ethereum Layer 2. Its promise: to deliver an on-chain trading experience with high-frequency trading (HFT) performance. To achieve this, Lighter relies on custom ZK (Zero-Knowledge) circuits that enable verifiable order matching and liquidations, all with extremely low costs and latency.

Backed by top-tier investors like a16z, Lighter is no ordinary project. It aims to solve one of the major problems facing DEXs: the trade-off between decentralization and performance. By offering a robust and fast platform, Lighter could attract substantial trading volumes from both retail traders and institutions.

The enthusiasm around Lighter is primarily fueled by the staggering figures of its potential airdrop. The team confirmed during an AMA (Ask Me Anything) that a massive 30% to 50% of the total token supply would be allocated to the community via this airdrop. This level of generosity is rare and explains the excitement.

The Airdrop: What We Know and How to Participate
