According to the latest SEC filing, <strong>Harvard held 6,813,612 shares of the iShares <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/learn\/crypto\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> Trust (IBIT)<\/strong> as of September 30, 2024, valued at <strong>$442.9 million<\/strong>. This represents a spectacular increase compared to the <strong>1,906,000 shares<\/strong> held in June, valued at approximately <strong>$116 million<\/strong>. The allocation has therefore been <strong>multiplied by 3.5 in the span of one quarter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What makes this move even more significant is its timing. The university strengthened its position while US <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/crypto-investing\/buy\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> ETFs recorded net outflows of <strong>$869 million<\/strong> on November 13, the second-largest outflow ever observed. Bitcoin had just dropped below the symbolic <strong>$100,000 threshold<\/strong> and the entire crypto market was experiencing a brutal correction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Just checked and yeah <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%24IBIT&amp;src=ctag&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">$IBIT<\/a> is now Harvard&#39;s largest position in its 13F and its biggest position increase in Q3. This is therefore exceptional validation for an ETF.&#8221; IBIT thus becomes <strong>Harvard&#8217;s largest position<\/strong>, surpassing all other assets in its portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a-multi-asset-inflation-hedging-strategy\">A Multi-Asset Inflation Hedging Strategy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Harvard isn&#8217;t just accumulating Bitcoin. The same filing reveals that the university increased its stake in the <strong>GLD ETF by 99%<\/strong> (physical gold), reaching <strong>661,391 shares<\/strong> valued at <strong>$235 million<\/strong>. This dual allocation to Bitcoin and gold is not insignificant. It reflects a clear hedging strategy against monetary and inflationary risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This approach mirrors that of sovereign funds and family offices diversifying their stores of value. By combining a millennial tangible asset like gold with a rare digital asset like Bitcoin, Harvard is building a <strong>modern hedge against fiat currency devaluation<\/strong>. Both assets share a fundamental characteristic: limited supply and historical resistance to inflation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analyst MacroScope posed the central question stirring the market: &#8220;What does Harvard foresee? Bitcoin spot ETFs collectively hold more than <strong>7% of all BTC in circulation<\/strong>, creating structural pressure on available supply. This institutional concentration is fundamentally altering the market&#8217;s supply-demand dynamics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hunter Horsley, CEO of Bitwise, summarized the <strong>striking contrast between retail and institutional behaviors<\/strong>: &#8220;Your friend: thinking about selling their Bitcoin in the middle of one of the most bullish moments in crypto space history.
