The <strong>HIP-4<\/strong> allows for the creation of prediction markets, and the first contract on Bitcoin has shattered Polymarket&#8217;s records. Prediction markets and perpetual futures are two sides of the same coin, pricing risk on future events. A trader using Polymarket to bet on the Iran deal or the U.S. election already has an account, deposited funds, and a habit of usage. Offering them BTC perpetuals correlated to these same macro events creates a unique value proposition that Hyperliquid cannot replicate; the crypto trading platform does not yet have a compelling UX capable of competing with the <strong>ease of use of Polymarket.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevertheless, Polymarket&#8217;s strengths should not overshadow the considerable obstacles it faces in the perpetual market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Liquidity is the lifeblood of the perpetual DEX market. Hyperliquid benefits from a massive network effect; professional market makers flock there because of high volumes, and high volumes exist because of the market makers. Breaking this virtuous circle takes months and costly incentives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>User culture is another fracture. Perpetual traders are very different from prediction market users. They are sensitive to <strong>fees<\/strong> down to the tenth of a basis point, <strong>airdrops<\/strong>, <strong>points programs<\/strong>, and <strong>quick listings<\/strong> of new assets. Polymarket has yet to demonstrate its ability to attract and retain them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the technical infrastructure raises an open question: perpetuals require ultra-low latency and very high throughput. Polymarket, built on Polygon, will likely need to launch its own L1 to technically compete with Hyperliquid on its turf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In summary, this entry illustrates an underlying trend in 2026: the convergence between prediction markets and traditional derivatives. The boundaries between these two categories are rapidly blurring. Both instruments ultimately serve the same purpose \u2014 hedging or speculating on future uncertainty. A platform that excels in both could capture a significant share of what professionals call the &#8220;global risk pricing market.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Hyperliquid, Polymarket&#8217;s entry is <strong>both a threat and a validation<\/strong>. Healthy competition drives innovation.
