The case, brought to light by the Sarasota Police Department<\/strong>, exposes an alleged fraud of rare brutality: the victim was incarcerated with no other recourse available to her. And the primary tool of the scheme? Instant digital payments<\/strong> \u2014 a fraud vector the crypto community knows all too well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is what we know about this case, which illustrates once again the very real risks tied to delegating access to financial accounts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Veterans’ Coordinator at the Center of an Alleged Massive Embezzlement Scheme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jessica Elizabeth McVay<\/strong>, 48, of Palmetto, Florida<\/strong>, was arrested on September 23, 2025<\/strong> by the Sarasota Police Department. She held the position of Veterans’ Affairs Coordinator<\/strong> within the Public Defender’s Office for Florida’s 12th Judicial Circuit<\/strong>.
