This would create the illusion of <strong>organic user adoption<\/strong> in <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/crypto-investing\/\">crypto<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Can one of the on-chain investigators confirm for me if it is true that the majority of Ondo&#39;s TVL, particularly their recent growth, is from the team&#39;s selling of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%24ONDO&amp;src=ctag&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">$ONDO<\/a> tokens with the proceeds funneled back into the protocol to give off the appearance of organic growth? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/bZ8bsJGlxT\">https:\/\/t.co\/bZ8bsJGlxT<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Quinn Thompson (@qthomp) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/qthomp\/status\/1902049288214978662?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 18, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Can any on-chain investigators confirm if it&#8217;s true that the majority of Ondo&#8217;s TVL&#8230; comes from the sale of <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/learn\/crypto\/ondo-finance\/\"><strong>$ONDO<\/strong> tokens<\/a> by the team, with the proceeds reinvested in the protocol to give the appearance of organic growth?&#8221; he wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>To support his claims, Thompson referenced his message from October 2024 where he criticized Ondo&#8217;s diluted <strong>$7 billion valuation<\/strong> despite no revenue and offering products (USDY and OUSG) that are just &#8220;wrappers on Blackrock&#8217;s BUIDL.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also highlighted that the protocol generated <strong>no revenue<\/strong> with its <strong>0.15%<\/strong> fee temporarily suspended until 2025. This suggests that users will likely <strong>migrate to BUIDL<\/strong> once the fee is reinstated. Indeed, it would be safer, cheaper, and offer <strong>better returns<\/strong>. Even if Ondo started charging fees, it would only make around $975,000 annually, resulting in a <strong>diluted valuation\/revenue multiple of over 7,000<\/strong> in a <strong>low-margin business without a competitive edge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ondo-concerning-shadows\"><strong>ONDO : Concerning Shadows<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A user, @TimiBot, reacted by commenting that it was a <strong>well-known secret<\/strong>. He attached a screenshot of a message circulating in a Telegram group. This message describes the alleged mechanisms behind the <strong>artificial inflation of Ondo&#8217;s TVL<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Thought this was an open secret <br><br>Ondo is the most predatory grift I think we\u2019ve seen in crypto, but man they\u2019re good at (scammy) marketing <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2X3eivlPcY\">pic.twitter.com\/2X3eivlPcY<\/a><\/p>&mdash; TrimBot \u2702\ufe0f \ud83e\udd16 (@Trim_Bot) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Trim_Bot\/status\/1902052610279965046?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 18, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This suggests that while the TVL funds are real, <strong>Ondo Finance&#8217;s TVL metric<\/strong> may not be representative of reality. In fact, a significant portion of the capital in the protocol <strong>does not fund DeFi<\/strong> but is instead invested in <strong>tokenized US Treasury bonds<\/strong>. These are <strong>traditional low-risk financial instruments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ondo Finance could be using <strong>artificial TVL inflation<\/strong> by selling its own ONDO tokens and reinvesting that money into its own protocol. The funds invested in Treasury bonds are also part of the declared TVL. However, they are <strong>not used for <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/crypto-news\/top-defi-cryptocurrencies-buy-march-2025\/\">DeFi activities<\/a><\/strong> like lending, borrowing, or <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/trading\/\">trading<\/a>. These two tactics would create a <strong>misleading picture of the protocol&#8217;s actual adoption<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"our-verdict-between-caution-and-hope\"><strong>Our Verdict : Between Caution and Hope<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Faced with these troubling allegations, investors must <strong>remain cautious about Ondo Finance&#8217;s practices<\/strong>.
