They posted a fake smart contract address, luring subscribers to make payments in exchange for advertising services on the Tron network. According to Tron, this social engineering attack allowed the perpetrators to steal the equivalent of <strong>$45,000<\/strong> from the unsuspecting users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We\u2019re aware that our X account was compromised from 9:25 AM PST on May 2, 2025. During this time, an unauthorized party published a post containing a contract address (CA), sent direct messages (DMs), and followed various accounts unknown to us.<br><br>Please be reminded: TRON DAO will\u2026<\/p>&mdash; TRON DAO (@trondao) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/trondao\/status\/1918459819310367216?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 3, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the Tron team quickly regained control of the account, they highlight that the hacking likely originated from <strong>credentials theft<\/strong> of one of their team members. A fraudulent message announcing a <strong>fake CRV token airdrop<\/strong> was briefly posted, inviting users to register on a third-party site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Possible hack of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CurveFinance?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CurveFinance<\/a> X account, do NOT &quot;register&quot; or submit any info on the post below. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/cjTn4XRx8F\">pic.twitter.com\/cjTn4XRx8F<\/a><\/p>&mdash; CrediBULL Crypto (@CredibleCrypto) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CredibleCrypto\/status\/1919403851825766856?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 5, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Although access to the account was swiftly restored with the assistance of the cybersecurity group <strong>SEAL<\/strong>, the Curve team revealed that the hacker had previously blocked some accounts that had tried to alert the community. To date, no specific vulnerability has been identified, with the exact origin of the hack still &#8220;<strong>unclear<\/strong>&#8221; according to officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These events are part of a broader context of <strong>increasing<\/strong> attacks targeting X accounts (formerly Twitter) related to <a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/learn\/crypto\/\">cryptocurrencies<\/a>. Since the beginning of the year, numerous other notable cases have been documented, affecting <strong>political figures<\/strong>, blockchain start-ups, and even <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/investx.fr\/en\/crypto-investing\/exchange\/best-cryptocurrency-exchange\/\">exchanges<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a-crucial-challenge-for-the-web3-ecosystem\">A Crucial Challenge for the Web3 Ecosystem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As the crypto industry matures, securing X accounts &#8211; often at the core of project communication &#8211; becomes a top priority. The recent attacks on Tron DAO and Curve Finance demonstrate that even experienced players can be <strong>vulnerable<\/strong> to social engineering techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To rebuild community trust, crucial for Web3 development, the ecosystem must now move towards more robust security protocols. A daunting yet essential challenge to ensure long-term resilience of the crypto ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is worth noting that these hacks do not only target <strong>crypto accounts<\/strong>, as crypto scams have been promoted on McDonald&#8217;s Instagram account or on football players&#8217; accounts like Mbapp\u00e9&#8217;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/PeckShieldAlert?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#PeckShieldAlert<\/a> 2023 saw 600+ major hacks in the crypto space, resulting in ~$2.61B in losses, with $674.9M recovered. <br>$1.51B lost to hacks (excluding <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Multichain?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Multichain<\/a> unauthorized withdrawals) &amp; $1.1B to scams.
