Bitcoin is trading under extreme pressure ahead of a Federal Reserve decision that analysts are calling historically uncertain. Meanwhile, the conflict involving Iran has sent oil prices surging +8%, reigniting the specter of inflation.
Crypto markets are navigating choppy waters: caught between macro headwinds from commodity markets and a FOMC meeting described as “the most divided” in years, BTC is struggling to find a clear direction. A single hawkish or dovish signal could trigger a violent move.
A deep dive into a rare market configuration where geopolitics, monetary policy, and crypto sentiment are colliding head-on.
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting taking place this week is being described by several analysts as the most divided in recent memory. Within the committee itself, members are at odds over the path of interest rates: some are pushing for a prolonged hold in the face of persistent inflation, while others are anticipating rapid cuts to support an economy showing signs of fatigue.
This internal fracture is generating maximum uncertainty across markets. Bitcoin, an asset particularly sensitive to liquidity expectations, finds itself in a zone of technical compression. Price action reflects this indecision: volumes remain moderate, candles are short-bodied, and key support and resistance levels are being tested without conviction. A breakout in either direction appears inevitable once the Fed makes its official announcement.
Historically, FOMC decisions generate heightened volatility in BTC within the 24 to 48 hours following the announcement. According to data from CoinGlass, liquidations during previous Fed meetings have at times exceeded $300 million within just a few hours, on both the long and short side. Traders holding high-leverage positions are therefore exposed to significant liquidation risk in this environment.

The sharp spike in oil prices — +8% intraday — driven by escalating military tensions involving Iran is further complicating the macro equation. A sudden surge in crude is a direct inflationary warning signal: it drives up transportation, energy, and production costs on a global scale, making the Fed’s task even more delicate.
For Bitcoin, this backdrop is doubly unfavorable in the short term. On one hand, a resurgence of inflation reduces the probability of imminent rate cuts, weighing on risk assets. On the other, the sell-off in Asian tech stocks — particularly chipmakers — is amplifying the prevailing risk-off sentiment. Correlations between BTC and the Nasdaq remain elevated, and any pressure on tech stocks mechanically feeds through to crypto sentiment.
On-chain data also points to heightened caution among large holders. Inflows to exchanges remain contained, a sign that whales have not yet decided to liquidate their positions en masse. But the absence of any notable spot accumulation suggests the market is waiting for a clear catalyst before committing to a direction. The Fed’s decision represents that potential catalyst.
Several indicators deserve close attention in this environment of potentially extreme volatility. The Fed Funds futures rate, tracked in real time via the CME FedWatch Tool, provides an instant read on market expectations. Any upward revision to rate projections — the well-known dot plot — would be an immediate bearish signal for BTC.
On the technical side, the key levels to watch on Bitcoin are clearly identifiable. A break below the key support levels that have held for several weeks would open the door to a deeper correction, while a hold above those zones combined with a dovish tone from Jerome Powell could reignite a bullish move. The funding rate on major perpetual exchanges remains a sentiment indicator not to be overlooked: a negative funding rate would signal short dominance and the potential for a short squeeze.
Finally, how oil prices evolve over the coming sessions will be decisive. If geopolitical tensions ease and crude pulls back, a portion of the inflationary pressure would dissipate, giving risk assets room to breathe. Conversely, any further escalation of the Iran conflict would keep markets under pressure and reinforce the scenario of a Fed forced to stay restrictive for longer than expected.
