Coinbase’s XRP Holdings Slashed by 3—What’s Behind the Sharp Decline?

On-chain data reveals a significant development: Coinbase now holds three times less XRP than a few months ago. This decision raises many questions. Is it merely a strategic adjustment or a sign of dwindling confidence in the Ripple token?

Massive Reduction in XRP Holdings at Coinbase

Data shows that Coinbase has made a surprising move regarding its XRP holdings. The platform has dropped from the fifth largest XRP holder to tenth place. This reduces its portfolio from over 780 million to just 200 million XRP.

This 69% drop in its XRP holdings since the second quarter of 2025 has notably accelerated in recent weeks. In fact, there’s been a 57% decrease in the last month alone. Such a short-term reduction can only be attributed to massive outflows from institutional investors.

A Movement That Could Influence the Token’s Price

This development at Coinbase isn’t an isolated case. Other exchange platforms like Uphold and Upbit have also experienced significant decreases in their reserves during the same period.

Market observers speculate that these movements could indicate a transition of exchanges toward a different clientele. This would primarily consist of retail investors. XRP is being absorbed through institutional channels.

Despite these recent fluctuations, the token remains below the $3 threshold, and its short-term evolution remains uncertain. However, the decrease in platform holdings could signal a reduction in selling pressure, thus offering potential for price stabilization.

Toward a New Balance in the Altcoin Market?

The drastic reduction in XRP holdings at Coinbase and other major exchanges raises numerous questions about current trends in the crypto market. The increasing involvement of institutional players like BlackRock seems to be reshaping the sector’s dynamics, with a possible refocusing of exchanges on retail clientele.

It will be essential to closely monitor upcoming developments to understand the future stakes for Ripple and the cryptocurrency market as a whole.
