Cryptos and Tokenization to Pull Japan Out of Crisis
Facing the Japanese bond market crisis, the Japan Post Bank is considering an ambitious pivot toward cryptos. The institution plans to launch its own digital currency, the DCJPY, by 2026. The goal: to capitalize on the rising tokenized asset market, estimated to reach $18.9 trillion by 2033.

By integrating its network of 120 million accounts into this new blockchain infrastructure, the bank aims to make savings instantly accessible for digital asset transactions. Customers will be able to more easily purchase security tokens, NFTs, and other tokenized financial products, paving the way for potential yields of 3 to 5%.
Additionally, the DCJPY will allow local authorities to disburse grants and social benefits more simply, thanks to automatic deposits and streamlined administrative processes. This functionality is expected to appeal to numerous communities.
Japanese Bond Crisis Intensifies
Meanwhile, institutional demand for Japanese Government Bonds (JGBs) is eroding significantly. Major buyers, such as insurance companies, are drastically reducing their investments in super-long maturities beyond 20 years. This trend has pushed the yield on 30-year Japanese bonds to 3.19%, a level approaching historic records.

Amid this bond market stress, some local companies like Metaplanet have continued investing in Bitcoin. This strategy contrasts with the recent decline in BTC prices.
In conclusion, by launching its own digital currency, Japan Post Bank intends to ride the wave of asset tokenization and cryptocurrencies. This ambitious initiative should allow it to revitalize its financial activities and services, while breaking free from bond market turbulence. Customers will gain easier access to a range of innovative investments during this crisis period.
