Metaplanet Building a Colossal Bitcoin Reserve
Japanese investment company Metaplanet is sparing no effort to bolster its Bitcoin portfolio. After acquiring 1,756 BTC last August, the firm has just purchased an additional 1,009 BTC for approximately $112 million. With this new acquisition, Metaplanet now holds a total of 20,000 BTC, valued at over $2 billion at current prices. The company has set an ambitious target of 30,000 BTC by the end of the year, after successfully crossing the 10,000 BTC threshold earlier this year.

To reach this goal, Metaplanet has turned to international markets, raising $837 million through share offerings. A significant portion of these funds will be dedicated to new Bitcoin acquisitions planned for September and October.
The company also benefits from heavyweight support within its board of directors: Eric Trump, son of US President Donald Trump, has held the role of strategic advisor since March 2025. His involvement will be highlighted at the upcoming shareholder meeting in Tokyo, where new financing methods will be discussed.
Impressive Performance Despite Market Retreat
Although Metaplanet’s stock recorded a 4.5% decline on the day of the announcement, it shows a 135% increase since the beginning of the year. This performance reflects investor support for the company’s ambitious strategy.
Thanks to these massive purchases, Metaplanet now ranks 6th among the largest Bitcoin holders among publicly listed companies, surpassing Riot Platforms. The company also reported a 31% return on its Bitcoin portfolio between July 1 and September 1.
Metaplanet continues its expansion in the cryptocurrency universe, investing heavily in Bitcoin to achieve increasingly ambitious goals. With strategic acquisitions and the involvement of influential figures like Eric Trump, the company is showing impressive growth and establishing itself as a key player on the global crypto scene.
