PayPal Expands P2P Offerings to Include Cryptocurrencies

According to a press release, PayPal has expanded its peer-to-peer (P2P) payment solutions to now include cryptocurrencies. American users will soon have the ability to send and receive these digital assets directly within the app, beyond simple transfers to PayPal and Venmo. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and PYUSD are among the cryptocurrencies confirmed to be supported initially.

This integration of cryptocurrencies is part of PayPal’s broader strategy aimed at making its ecosystem an essential player in global digital payments. After announcing the addition of a “Pay with Crypto” feature for merchants last July, the company is taking another step forward by making these assets accessible to users in their everyday P2P transactions.

Advanced Features for an Optimized Experience

In addition to adding cryptocurrencies, the platform is also launching “PayPal Links” and customized payment links. These allow for even smoother sending and receiving of money. Starting today, American users can create these unique links and share them with friends and family.

“For 25 years, PayPal has revolutionized how money moves between people. Today, we’re taking another major step forward,” said Diego Scotti, Chief Consumer Officer at PayPal. “Whether you’re sending a message, text, or email, your money now follows your conversations.”

This evolution of PayPal’s P2P services, now open to cryptocurrencies, is part of the broader “PayPal World” initiative. This project aims to connect various digital payment systems and wallets globally, positioning PayPal as a central player in this new era of monetary transactions.
