CNBC Crowns XRP: Why Is the Market Reacting with a Drop?

The contrast is striking this Thursday, January 8th. On the CNBC set, analysts are categorical: XRP is positioned to be the major asset of 2026, stealing the spotlight from giants Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH). Yet, the market responded with an immediate retracement, causing the price to drop 5%.

Even though this drop occurs within a globally retreating crypto market, the lack of momentum at the time of the announcement is concerning. Capital is no longer jumping on good news. This lack of liquidity weakens hopes of reaching a new ATH this year.

Institutions in Accumulation Mode: ETFs Are Loading Up

While the price wavers, Smart Money remains unfazed. According to data reported by CoinDesk, institutional demand via Spot XRP ETFs listed in the United States remains extremely robust. Net inflows continue to be positive in early January, signaling that asset managers are taking advantage of this volatility to accumulate at low prices.

Unlike weak hands that panic at the slightest red candle, whales appear to be betting on a sustained bullish trend. This divergence between spot price and institutional buying volumes is often a leading indicator of a bullish move in the medium term.

Can XRP Really Outperform Bitcoin in 2026?

The question divides the crypto community. On one hand, growing media recognition and massive institutional adoption argue for a major rally capable of smashing through current resistance levels. On the other, correlation with the rest of the market remains strong and XRP will need to prove its resilience.

If Ripple’s token manages to attract fresh capital, price targets could quickly be revised upward. Investors must now watch whether XRP has the necessary strength to validate CNBC’s predictions and establish itself as the leader of the 2026 cycle.
