Binance, Coinbase, OKX: Liquidity Gradually Migrating to DEX
Ignas’s January analysis highlighted a revealing phenomenon: new tokens listed on Binance consistently underperform after their Dex listing. The cases of Simon’s Cat’s CAT and Magic Eden’s ME token perfectly illustrate this dynamic. Both assets lost approximately 70% of their value after listing. Velodrome’s VELO token experienced a similar drop to $0.1154 as soon as trading pairs opened.
This pattern confirms that price discovery now takes place on DEX. Meanwhile, centralized exchanges primarily serve as exit points for holders looking to liquidate their positions. Previously, this discovery role belonged to venture capitalists’ private markets, then to CEXs during listings. Today, the sequence has reversed: prices form on-chain, followed by liquidation on centralized platforms.
The predominance of sophisticated traders, classified as “smart money,” on DEXs explains this transition. These actors set prices through automated market maker curves and auction mechanisms before traditional order books come into play. Monthly volumes regularly exceeding 100 billion dollars on Uniswap confirm this reality.
👉 The rising power of DEX highlights a structural market shift: liquidity is moving, but investment opportunities remain. Centralized platforms like Bitget continue to be key entry points for quick access to DeFi, governance tokens, and emerging cryptocurrencies.

DeFi 2.0: Toward a New Era of On-Chain Efficiency
This growth is restructuring the entire plumbing of the crypto market. Benchmark indices, market making models, and oracle design must now integrate on-chain liquidity sources as primary data. The result produces more transparent and programmable markets, where asset custody and trade execution converge in a single non-custodial wallet.
Liquidity, pricing, and risk management are gradually migrating to smart contracts and solver networks. Regulators, indexers, and market makers now treat on-chain venues as primary rather than peripheral sources of truth. This evolution forces rapid adaptation from traditional players.
Maintaining outflow channels via CEXs nevertheless remains essential for the overall market health. This two-tier structure allows organic price formation on decentralized rails while preserving vast liquidity venues for traders requiring immediate large-scale execution. The balance between these two mechanisms will likely define the next phase of sector maturation.
