Breez has just unveiled Glow, an open source progressive web app (PWA) that reimagines the Bitcoin wallet experience. No more seed phrases, no more technical complexity — the goal is to make Bitcoin accessible to mainstream users while preserving self-custody.

What sets Glow apart from the dozens of wallets already on the market is its ability to send stablecoins directly from a bitcoin balance, without the user having to manage asset swaps themselves. It is an ambitious promise, backed by a carefully designed technical architecture.

Developed in partnership with Bitcoin Spark, the app is already available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Here is what it actually changes.

A Bitcoin Wallet Without a Seed Phrase, But With Self-Custody

Glow breaks away from one of the most dreaded friction points for new users: saving a recovery phrase. The app relies on the Passkey standard, championed by major Silicon Valley players, to replace passwords and mnemonic phrases with cryptographic authentication that is native to the user’s device.

Despite this change in interface, Breez states that users retain full cryptographic control over their funds within an auditable software package. The app is published under the MIT license, meaning any developer can inspect the code, modify it, and integrate it into their own projects via the Breez SDK and API.

On the payments side, Glow natively supports the Lightning Network with customizable email-style addresses — for example BM@breez.tips. A contacts book also lets users save the Lightning addresses of people they pay regularly, replacing public keys and Lightning invoices with an experience closer to mainstream payment apps like PayPal or Cash App.

Native Bitcoin Stablecoins Powered by the Spark Protocol

The core technical innovation behind Glow lies in its ability to send stablecoinsUSDT and USDC across most networks — by drawing directly from the user’s Bitcoin balance. The Breez SDK handles the conversion in the background via a partnership with Flashnet, making the entire operation seamless for the end user.

The app’s flagship stablecoin, however, is USDB (the “B” standing for Bitcoin), issued by Brale Inc., a US-based entity licensed as a Money Services Business (MSB) in more than 45 states. USDB is deployed via the Spark protocol, which is compatible with the Lightning Network, making it a natively Bitcoin stablecoin — a notable first in the ecosystem. Brale claims compliance with the GENIUS Act and 100% backing by US Treasury bills, cash, and cash equivalents. It is worth noting, however, that the GENIUS Act regulations do not come into effect until 2027, and no independent verification mechanism currently exists.

For onboarding, Glow integrates two fiat on-ramps from the outset: Cash App and MoonPay, connected via their respective APIs. Sats arrive within seconds according to Breez. Users can also convert their BTC into USD-denominated value at any time to gain stablecoin exposure — and according to the company, they accumulate sats in the process.

What Glow Changes for Bitcoin Developers

Beyond the user experience, Glow is designed as a reference implementation for developers looking to build on Bitcoin without having to manage protocol-level complexity. The Breez SDK abstracts the technical layers — Lightning channel management, asset swaps, fiat on-ramp integration — so that teams can focus on the product itself.

As an MIT-licensed PWA, the app runs in a browser with no mandatory installation, lowering the barrier to entry even further. Developers can fork the project, adapt it to their needs, and deploy their own version on top of the Breez infrastructure. It is a positioning clearly oriented toward the mass adoption of Bitcoin as a payment layer — not solely as a store of value.

With Glow, Breez is betting on the convergence of mainstream UX, native Bitcoin stablecoins, and open source principles — a rare combination in an ecosystem still largely dominated by proprietary solutions or tools built for advanced users.
