A Historic Attack: 6 Tbps in the Crosshairs
The attack reached a peak of 6 terabits per second (Tbps), ranking it as the fourth largest DDoS attack ever recorded against a distributed system. To put this figure into perspective, it places Solana in the same category as web giants like Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, which have experienced larger attacks but with massively greater centralized infrastructures.
A DDoS attack aims to overwhelm a network with such an enormous volume of traffic that it becomes inaccessible to legitimate users, much like creating a massive traffic jam on a highway to paralyze all traffic flow.

Solana’s Unexpected Resilience: No Performance Degradation
What makes this event so remarkable is the Solana network’s response. Despite the intensity and duration of the attack, on-chain data shows a stunning result: no impact on network performance. Transaction confirmations remained under one second and slot latency (the time interval to produce a block) remained stable.
In other words, for the average user, the attack was completely invisible. This resilience contrasts sharply with other networks, such as the Sui blockchain, which was also targeted by a DDoS attack the same week and experienced delays in block production and notable performance degradation.
A Successful Stress Test
For Solana, which has suffered from several outages and periods of instability in the past, this event is a major technical and narrative victory. It demonstrates that improvements made to the network’s infrastructure and validator performance are paying off.
Withstanding an attack of this magnitude without faltering is the best possible stress test and sends a strong message to the ecosystem: Solana is not only fast and low-cost, but it is also increasingly robust. While critics have pointed to its reliability issues, this show of strength could well mark a turning point in the perception of the blockchain’s robustness against external threats.
