During a recent interview on CNBC, Ron Baron, founder and CEO of Baron Capital, displayed unwavering conviction in SpaceX. The man who has invested over $1.7 billion since the beginning of the year in Elon Musk’s company declares that the aerospace firm is on the verge of becoming the largest company on the planet. With SpaceX having filed a confidential S-1 in April 2026 for an initial public offering (IPO) expected by mid year, institutional hype is at an all time high.
Indeed, Baron is not just talking the talk: he announced placing a $1 billion buy order at the IPO price. This marks a true accumulation phase for his fund, which already holds $15 billion in SpaceX stock, making it his largest position. Analysts estimate that the initial valuation could range between $1.5 and $1.75 trillion.
For investors, this launch is shaping up to be a major breakout in traditional markets. Much like a blistering rally in the cryptocurrency market, the SpaceX IPO could siphon a massive amount of liquidity, creating an unprecedented vacuum for tech stocks, including Bitcoin.
How can a $30 trillion projection be justified? For Ron Baron, the fundamentals of SpaceX are simply unmatched. He highlights the overwhelming competitive advantage of reusable rockets and the emerging monopoly of Starlink, which is deploying a high speed global internet network. But the real revolution could come from space infrastructure.
The investor anticipates the creation of orbiting data centers, powered by inexhaustible solar energy and naturally cooled by the vacuum of space. Faced with such innovations, betting against Elon Musk is perceived as an extremely risky strategy by institutions. Baron also specified that his $30 trillion estimate could prove to be “very low” in the long run.
This exponential vision is generating palpable excitement among investors. Just like disruptive crypto projects redefining decentralized finance, SpaceX is preparing to shake up the space economy, promising to shatter all records. This is especially true since the launch is expected to take place in an unprecedented market environment where retail speculation is at its peak.
Ultimately, the market is searching for the ultimate safe haven asset. And if the SpaceX IPO is a success, liquidity could flow like a river into the sea toward Musk’s company.
To put this $30 trillion valuation into perspective, one only needs to look at current tech giants. Apple and Nvidia are hovering around $3 trillion, while the total market capitalization of Bitcoin barely exceeds $1.3 trillion. If SpaceX achieves its goals, it will carry more weight than the entire current European stock market.
The question is whether retail investors will have the opportunity to position themselves, or if institutional whales will absorb all the available supply during the IPO only to dump it during retail FOMO. If the stock undergoes a natural correction or retracement in the weeks following its listing, it could offer an unexpectedly strategic entry point.
As the line between traditional tech and the crypto ecosystem blurs, will SpaceX become the ultimate safe haven of the next decade, surpassing even digital gold in investor portfolios? In any case, it would be a beautiful story and would have the advantage of reshuffling the deck across the markets.
